Ils laissent mourir de faim leur bébé pendant qu'ils mangeaient un buffet à volonté au restaurant
Le 23 décembre, un bébé, âgé de 22 semaines, a été retrouvé inanimé dans une voiture garée sur le parking d'un restaurant à Lakeland, en Floride, aux Etats-Unis. La victime a été transportée à l'hôpital où elle est décédée quelques instants plus tard. Ses parents ont été retrouvés dans le restaurant en train de manger un buffet à volonté. Une autopsie a été pratiquée et a révélé que le nouveau-né était mort de faim. Il avait perdu 1,2 kg depuis sa naissance. Ruby Stephens, 23 ans, et Roy Stephens, 48 ans, ont été inculpés pour meurtre au 1er degré. Quant aux deux autres enfants du couple, âgés de 1 et 2 ans, ils sont en bonne santé et ont été placés. Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the baby was deceased for at least 3 and a half hours prior to the mother calling 911. The infant had lost 2 pounds 9 ounces from the time of her birth 22 days earlier to her death, WFLA reported. According to a report by the Medical Examiner, the infant had not been fed for several hours prior to her death, even though the mother told police that she breastfed the baby every 2-3 hours. Two other children were in the car, a 1-year-old and 2-year-old, both appeared to be in good health and were placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The baby’s cause of death was “starvation due to neglect” and that the manner of death was “homicide,” according to the M.E.
